Applying stuff in the Beatmaking Courses to other DAWs

Seems like a self-explanatory question, but how applicable are the courses to other DAWs that I might want to try out, (Ableton, Logic, etc.) Are there any specific courses that apply particularly well to other DAWs or vice-versa where they are very FL-specific and don’t trasfer over as well?

    Hey Zach!  Hope you’re well!

I would say 90% of my courses are Music Production General Knowledge.. most of what is shown translates to must-know knowledge for beatmaking.  How to actually do that technique in each DAW may differ slightly.

FL Studio specific courses usually have FL Studio in the title.. like “FL Studio Beginner Course”, “FL Studio Intermediate Course”, and “10 Steps to Become an FL Studio Pro”.

As long as the other DAW has some type of Step Sequencer and Piano Roll, you should be able to use the knowledge from my Beatmaking Courses wherever you go, whether it’s hardware based, another DAW, etc.

What is your thought process?  Feel free to give more info to your mindset; I will help direct where I can.  🙂

Thank You! That makes sense. As to my thought process what specific part of it are you asking about? The thought behind using a different DAW or just production in general?

Yeah, like what is your reason for asking the question if my courses relate to other DAWs?

Are you thinking of using another DAW?  If so, what’s your mindset?

I really like FL Studio beatmaking, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best choice for all audio applications.

I was just reaching out saying if you want to give me your initial thought process of your question, I can maybe help direct & guide if you are indecisive, etc.

I’ve been looking at a few other options just to see if there is something else that might work better for me. Especially Ableton Live. One thing that I feel like I’m missing in FL is live performance capabilities (Live Looping). FL just doesn’t have great functionality from what I can tell and I was wondering if I would still be able to make use of most of your courses effectively outside of FL.

    Okay gotcha.

I don’t do any type of live performance, so don’t have too much experience here.

But I do know FL Studio has a live performance mode which allows you to create variations of patterns and trigger them via MIDI (either keys or pads).

Have you looked into that at all? It’s called FL Studio Performance Mode.

Besides that, some other things I know that could be useful is the “Recording Blend (over dub)” in the top tool bar to overwrite existing melodies in a live setting..

I would say yes, my Beatmaking Courses definitely teach you how to become a beatmaker, no matter what DAW you’re working in.  That is usually my goal behind a course to reach a larger audience, even though I’m using FL Studio.  But you as the end user, if you use another DAW, will have to figure out how to do certain techniques compared to FL Studio.

But in terms of how to make a drum loop, how to make powerful melodies & understand improvisation & play piano as a producer.. how to arrange a beat, how to mix & master.. this type of knowledge will stick with you no matter where you go.

If you’ve noticed in my trainings, I try to stick to only certain plugins for these reasons:

    • Super easy to teach with & for you to follow & learn.
    • Less cost for myself & for you guys
    • Less potential for bugs, maintenance and updates
    • You ACTUALLY learn how to use the tool & see progression faster

Either way you choose to go, my platform is here to help you along, and this questions area is here for you.

If you ask a specific question about another DAW, I won’t be able to help as I only use FL Studio, but if it is a general music production question which relates no matter what DAW you use, I can help where I can etc.

Feel free to keep asking, or open another question ANY TIME!

    Riley !

Thank You, I did not know about performance mode so I’ll definitely try that out!

Yeah!  It was created quite a few years back now.  I tried playing with it a couple times, and it is very powerful (a little tricky to setup).

A couple things to know about switching DAWs..

    • FL Studio does offer its LIFETIME Updates.. you don’t realize how nice this is until you start using a software that makes you pay for upgrades
    • You have to spend many hours learning the new workflow
    • If you switch and decide to come back, it’s wasted time.. you really don’t learn much when switching DAWs

I can only speak for myself, but I tried switching in my early years because of all the Music Production Tutorials I’d see.

I found FL Studio very comfortable & the pricing hard to beat.

Plus they introduced the MIDI Scripting (which allows us to customize a MIDI Controller.. if you know Python code.. that’s what my Oxygen Pro Template is)..

From a straight music production standpoint, FL Studio offers everything I need.

For things that FL Studio does not solve, I have my third-party plugins.. this is mostly to do with the mixing & mastering plugins, I often use FabFilter for the amazing workflow & functionality.

Thank-you so much for your business, Zach.

Hope you find the solutions you’re looking for.

Sometimes things are greener on the other side, but sometimes they aren’t..

I’ve heard Ableton leaves behind many small temp files when you load audio & save files (similar to video editing programs like MAGIX Vegas).. whereas FL Studio uses its simple .flp file format and you’re on your way.

Thanks for all the info! I’ll probably play around with performance mode and see if I can make it work for my needs. Might just end up keep using Loopy Pro for the live stuff for how powerful of a performance tool it is. Thanks again!
