    Hey there,

For the life of me I still cannot figure out how to download the midi files from my playlist.  I tried everything you suggested before.  I am sure its user error, but can you help.  When I go to export under file drop down and click midi, its blank.  thoughts?

Hey Adam, to confirm, this drop-down is in the Piano Roll, not the main FL Studio top menu File option.

    Let’s go step-by-step.

    1. In Piano Roll, click top-left arrow
    2. File -> Export as MIDI File…
    3. Save this file
    4. Simply drag/drop the saved MIDI File into a new virtual instrument (or go File -> Import MIDI File.. in Piano Roll).

Let me know if this is still not working for you!

It does download from the piano roll but I am trying to download the complete song from the playlist.  its not working there.

Yeah it doesn’t work that way.  You export MIDI from the Piano Roll, which you’d then import onto a Sound / Virtual Instrument in the Channel Rack.

Another alternative is in the main FL Studio top menu, go File -> Export -> MIDI File.. but I have no experience with this at all, so you’d have to figure out how the importing works..

What are you trying to do with the MIDI Files?  Maybe that will help me give an easier solution!

    Hey there,

I want to keep them on file so I can go back and rework them when I want to.  for the church basketball curriculum I would like to change up the sounds a bit each years.  Kind of like painting your house a different color each year.

Hey Adam, the easiest way to do this is just to save a FL Studio Project (.flp).

You’d use that as your template.

    Here’s how it’d work:

    • Create a template with your melodies / drum loop
    • Copy the project to a new file + Rename it
    • Open it up, then change your sounds!

You can now re-use this template, create a new project, then modify the sounds to your liking.

You can even add this as an actual FL Studio template so you don’t have to do the copy & rename found in Settings -> General -> Default template.

    You load templates into:

    Documents/Image-Line/FL Studio/Projects/Templates

I think that will be the easiest solution for you here.

No problem man!  Good thing I asked what you’re end goal was, as that usually allows me to clearly see what you’re trying to achieve!

Creating a FL Studio Project as your template to work off will help you tons!

This is what I do for my FL Studio template to improve my beatmaking, mixing, and mastering workflow!
