Hi Riley,
I’m reading the FL Studio Beginner book, and I was testing the ”shortcuts” in FL Studio (for example F1 to open the help center and F6 to open Channel Rack). But I’m on laptop, and when I press these buttons it does the following:
F1 on my laptop is sleeping mode so screen goes black and logs me out.. F6 changes brightness
Any idea how I can change/help this issue?

This is because your laptop has “function keys lock enabled” rather than having the regular F1-F12 functionality!
There’s a couple ways to adjust this…
Sometimes on the actual keyboard itself you can enable/disable the Fn lock, or many times laptops have software that allow you to switch between if the Function Keys are F1-F12 Keys or Special Keys.
(Or, you may have to go into your BIOS/UFEI settings and you’d be able to adjust this function key as well).
WITHOUT CHANGING ANYTHING.. you should still be able to use the F1-F12 keys if you hold down the Fn key then press F6 to access the Channel Rack, for example..
But, if you’d like to have your normal operation of F1-F12 instead of the laptop special keys like sleep etc.. then you’ll have to do a little research on how to switch the default behavior of the F-Keys on your laptop to normal F1-F12 instead of their special functionality..
Here’s a link from HowtoGeek to get you started!

Hi Riley,
Holding the FN button and pressing the F buttons now works, problem is solved. Thanks for your help!
May 18, 2022 at 9:50 am #61821Okay, right on!
As mentioned, some laptops comes default with the F1-F12 keys using the “special keys” like sleep etc. There are usually ways to switch it back to normal operation so that in order to use sleep, you have to hold down the Fn button, then F6 for example..
The choice is yours on how you want it set up, but now you know how to use the FL Studio window shortcuts with F1 on a laptop.. just press Fn or switch it in the software or BIOS/UFEI settings! 🙂
