How to Fix the Pitch Wheel and Mod Wheel in FL Studio

Set Up Pitch and Mod Wheel in FL Studio:

Assigning the Pitch and Mod wheel is super easy!

In the FL Studio Browser, select:

  1. Current project
  2. Remote control
  3. Omni – Channel pitch [for pitch wheel]
  4. Omni – Mod wheel (Wrapper) [for mod wheel]

Here’s pictures showing step-by-step how to set up the pitch wheel in FL Studio. (It’s the same for assigning the mod wheel):

How to Map Pitch Knob in FL Studio - In the Browser, select "Current project" -> "Remote control" -> Omni - Channel pitch
How to Map Pitch Knob in FL Studio
Browser -> Current project -> Remote control -> Omni – Channel pitch

In the FL Studio Browser, under “Current project” is where you’ll find the “Remote control” option.

Upon clicking “Remote control”, the two we’re focused on are:

  1. Omni – Channel pitch
  2. Omni – Mod wheel (Wrapper)

Simply LEFT-CLICK one of these options to assign either the pitch wheel or mod wheel in FL Studio to your MIDI Keyboard.

This opens “Remote control settings” pop-up (which will look familiar if you’ve taken my Hands-On Mixing in FL Studio Course).

Assign MIDI Keyboard Pitch Wheel in FL Studio through the "Remote control settings" pop-up.

This image shows I’m setting up Channel pitch (pitch wheel).

With Remote control settings open, move your Pitch Wheel, and the pop-up will disappear!

Make sure Omni Mode is enabled in Remote control settings pop-up.. and I also like to enable Smoothing which makes the Pitch and Mod Wheel look better when using VSTs!

To test, make sure you’re focused on a Virtual Instrument (left-click on it), hold down a couple notes, then move the pitch wheel!

You should hear the notes going up and down in pitch!

Pitch and Mod Wheel – FL Studio Questions

Here’s common problems with the Pitch Wheel and Mod Wheel in FL Studio.

The pitch wheel is also known as pitch bending. This can be done “live” when using the pitch wheel, but in FL Studio, using slide notes gives much better experience when making beats. 🙂

Why Does the Pitch Wheel Stop Working?

This happens if you route the pitch wheel or mod wheel to another parameter.

When mapping parameters in FL Studio, we have Project Links and Global Links.

If you used Project Links on a Pitch Wheel or Mod Wheel, it can remove the mapping you’ve set up.

Simply follow what you’ve learned in this tutorial to set up the pitch wheel in FL Studio!
