V2.1 – FL Template Changes

Version 2.0 was such a big release for me! I did so much planning and testing, but after many more beats, and truly putting the template through its paces, I rolled back to 100% volume.

Let’s cover what’s changed.

Version 2.0 gave the new PRE-MASTER (previously SUB MIX). This is a revolutionary FL Studio workflow because it doesn’t matter if you have bad mixing habits, we can simply turn down the volume BEFORE the MASTER Bus to get our Mastering sweet spot level no matter what.

But I took it a step further on the individual mixer inserts.. I thought if I turned those down, it’d give even more control over volume when mixing.. but it turned out it actually wrecked my workflow.

Should You Mix While Making Beats?

I often DO NOT mix & make beats at the same time, but I DO send the odd sound to the mixer to process with effects.

Because v2.0 has normal mixer inserts at 67%, the volume reduction dipped the sound’s volume so low to the point where I’d have to grab the mouse and turn the volume back up.. (counter intuitive..)

Therefore, the PRE-MASTER is all I was truly after.

Mixer inserts are back at 100%, and we can fine-tune our audio using PRE-MASTER before going to the actual MASTER so our Mastering Chain’s “gain-staging” can always be in a sweet spot.

Recap: What Changed in v2.1:

• Reworded SUB MIX to PRE-MASTER (easier to understand it’s purpose).
• Turned normal mixer inserts back to 100% for normal FL Studio workflow, which allows beatmaking & mixing.
• Adjusted each SEND, otherwise the 100% volume was too aggressive into the SENDS.

As you watch the course, just keep in mind, volumes are now at 100%, and “SUB MIX” is now “PRE-MASTER”.

Everything else in regard to routing, SENDS, workflow should all be the same during this course.
