Making a Website for Beatmakers – Part 3 of 10

Welcome to part 3 of Making a Website for Beatmakers.

In this video we covered, once you purchase your webhosting, what the next steps are to get your website up and running!

Databases with WordPress,

Now, your database is very important with your website. Remember, your blog posts, so in otherwords, the text you are reading right now, as this is a blog post, is stored in a database! So when backing up, don’t forget to back up both your webserver files, AND the database!

Create the database, username, and password, what ever you’d like. Just make sure to remember it 🙂 — As you’ll need this information for WordPress to work when it’s installed! (You can always go to the cPanel’s MySQL Databases to find this info out later if you do forget).

Domain Registrar,

Now, because in this video, my domain was on GoDaddy, I had to set up my name servers, which will be shown in a later video. But, if you simply purchased your domain through Hostgator at the time of purchasing your hosting with them, your name servers would be set up for you. So keep that in mind :).

What is a domain? So really, your server is just an IP address. Numbers like 12.34.56.78 — But, that’s hard to remember right? Imagine telling a friend:

Hey, visit my website! — “Okay, what is it?” — It’s 12.34.56.78!

That would be silly sounding, and hard to remember right? — So a domain simply converts those numbers into letters, so people can easily remember the name of your website, and how to connect to it :).

On to the Next Video!

Next, onto setting up the name servers, and installing WordPress! Talk to you in the next video!
