Brand New Clothes

Jake - Brand New

The other day I was playing tug-o-war with my dog then noticed one of his toys had a rip in it. So what did I do? Took out my mom’s sewing kit and mended it together.

A thought came into my head about us and how sewing relates.

When ever we sin, it causes a rip in our shirts (souls), and what do we do? We try to cover it up and hide it from other people by “mending” the rip. But the thing is, the scar (rip) still remains.

“So how do we get rid of the scar? Do we pour some spiritual vitamin E oil on it hoping to remove the stretch mark scars?”

This is the beautiful thing of who Jesus is. Instead of God removing our scars, He gives us a new shirt, a new Spirit when we become born again. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

It’s pretty amazing how forgiving God is when we look back at all the things we have done against Him and how merciful He is to still care and listen to us. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Now that we are forgiven, it does not mean that everything is going to be super easy and nothing is going to take work and things won’t come against us, but we have the promise that He will always be there to help, and whatever it may be, it is for us to grow. And know that He will use everything we have been through for:

  1. To help others
  2. Become stronger and mature
  3. And have a powerful testimony. (“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives to the death.” Revelation 12:11)

The hardest part of God’s forgiveness is actually accepting it. Actually believing that He is so merciful to forgive anyone. No matter what the sin, what you have done, or how guilty you feel, God’s forgiveness is bigger.

Isaiah 1:18 – “Come now, and let us reason together, said the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.”

Instead of hiding our sin and keeping it covered up for no one else to see, allow God to use your sin for His Glory. If you ask for that forgiveness and are willing to use your wrongs as a testimony to others, God will use you in big ways!

Ask for forgiveness, Repent from your ways, and become Brand New.
